Does the Complexity of Sleep EEG Increase or Decrease with Age?

چکیده
The goal of this study is to contribute to discussions about age-related changes in electroencephalogram (EEG) complexity. Eight characteristics of complexity were evaluated for sleep EEG of 175 healthy subjects. The complexity of the sleep EEG significantly increased up to the age of about 60 years. Over 60 years, the complexity stagnated or slightly decreased. The same tendencies were manifested during all sleep stages and also during the episodes of wakefulness.

USEFULNESS OF SLEEP-DEPRIVED EEG IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF SEIZURE DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
The provocative effects of sleep deprivation (SD) on patients with seizure disorder and on the electroencephalogram (EEG ) are well known. The purpose of the study was to test its routine use and usefulness in the pediatric and adolescent age group with, or suspect of having, seizure disorder, especially those presenting with first unprovoked seizure. Between September 2000 and November 20...

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate sleep architecture in patients with primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Methods: In this study, we analyzed polysomnographic data of 391 clients who referred to Sleep Disorders Research Center (SDRS). These people were classified into three groups based on their Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) and snoring; control, Primary Snoring (PS), and Obs...
متن کاملThe septum modulates REM sleep-related penile erections in rats
Rapid eye movement sleep in males is characterized by penile erection along with EEG desynchronization, muscle atonia, ponto-geniculo-occipital waves, and rapid eye movements (REM). The central neural mechanisms regulating sleep related erections (SREs) are not known. Recently, the lateral preoptic area has been shown to contribute in sleep-related erectile mechanisms. The present study was con...

Introduction: Electroencephalography (EEG) is useful in seizure diagnosis. It needs cooperation and immobility of the person and if a child does not naturally sleep, pharmacological agents will be used to induce sleeping. The purpose of this study was to investigate efficacy and side effects of oral melatonin in sedation induction for EEG of children. Methods: In a quasi- experimental stud...
